Roman Blinds

Our Roman blind range features a wide range of beautiful fabrics, in a mix of plains, textures and prints to suit every taste in colour or design.

Our roman blinds are made to a high quality finish. All blinds come with blackout liling as standard and dulux control mechanism with child safe break away headrail insert.

Choose from our wide range of fabrics.

A curtain that behaves like a blind

A roman is the softest thing we fit. The fabric folds into horizontal pleats as it rises and hangs flat when it's down, so you get the weight and texture of a curtain without the stack of material either side of the window. In a period room where a roller looks too stark and shutters too hard, this is usually the answer.

It's also the one people choose when the window is the focal point. A patterned roman on a bay in a sitting room does the job a pair of curtains used to, and leaves the sill and the radiator clear.

What comes as standard

Blackout lining on every blind, not as an upgrade. That's unusual and it's worth knowing, because it means a roman in a bedroom doesn't need a second blind behind it. The deluxe control mechanism is standard too, with a child-safe breakaway insert in the headrail, which is how we meet BS EN 13120 without bolting something on afterwards.

Every fabric in the range can also be made up as matching curtains and cushion covers. If you want the bay in a roman and the french doors in curtains from the same cloth, that's a single order.

Fabrics

Plains, textures and prints across classic and contemporary ranges. Texture carries further on a roman than on any flat blind, because the folds catch light along each pleat, so a plain linen weave that looks unremarkable on a sample card reads as something much richer on the window. Hold the sample vertically and gather it before you decide.

Where they work and where they don't

Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, landings, anywhere the window is a feature. They're less suited to kitchens and bathrooms, where the fabric picks up cooking and steam, and to windows you open constantly, because the stacked fabric sits across the top of the glass. For those, a roller or a faux wood venetian is the sensible choice.

What roman blinds cost

Priced per opening, and fabric is the biggest variable in the range, because a roman uses more cloth than any other blind of the same size. Pattern repeat matters too: a large repeat has to be matched across the width, which uses more fabric again. Size, lining and whether you want matching curtains do the rest.

Common questions

Do I need a separate blackout blind in a bedroom?

No. Blackout lining is standard on every roman we make.

Can they be cleaned?

Dry clean or professional clean only, and the blind comes off the headrail to do it. Don't wash a lined roman at home, the lining and face fabric shrink at different rates.

Will they work in a bay?

Yes, as separate blinds on each face. We measure each one individually so the folds line up across the bay.

Can they be motorised?

Yes. We're Somfy certified installers, so a roman can run on battery or mains and sit alongside the rest of the house on Lutron, Control4, Rako or Crestron. See motorised blinds.

What's covered?

Twelve months from the date of order on the blind and the fitting, under clause 9.2 of our terms and conditions.
