Vertical Blinds

Our Vertical blind fabric range offers a wonderful selection of compositions, colours and designs

We have a fantastic range of neutral or vibrant plains, textures and patterns with a number of

specialist coatings from Teflon® to Flame Retardant. All of our made-to-measure blinds are manufactured to the highest standard to ensure you get the window dressing solution you desire.

Where vertical blinds work best

Verticals earn their keep on wide openings. A patio door, a run of conservatory glazing, a bay, an office window that needs light control without losing the view. The vanes rotate through 180 degrees, so you can take the glare off a south-facing room at four in the afternoon and still see the garden, which no roller will do.

They also suit rooms where the glass goes to the floor. The vanes stack back to one side or split to the middle, so a door stays usable. That is the practical reason verticals are still the most-fitted blind in UK conservatories despite being the oldest design on this page.

Fabrics, widths and tracks

Hundreds of fabrics across plains, textures and patterns, and many of them coordinate with our roller range, so a kitchen with a roller over the sink and a vertical across the patio door can be dressed in the same cloth. Specialist coatings run from Teflon, which shrugs off splashes and fingerprints, to flame retardant for commercial work.

Vanes come in 89mm and 127mm. The narrower vane suits smaller windows and gives a finer look when closed; the wider one covers a large opening with fewer joins. Tracks are white as standard, with black and anthracite available, and an anthracite track against grey frames is the single most-requested combination we fit at the moment.

Controls and child safety

Standard operation is a wand or a cord-and-chain. Blinds supplied in the UK have to meet BS EN 13120 for cord safety, so every vertical we fit comes with the breakaway connectors and the cleat or tension device fitted as part of the installation, not left in the bag.

Verticals can also be motorised. We are Somfy certified installers, so a track can run on battery or mains and sit inside Lutron, Control4, Rako or Crestron alongside the rest of the house. Motorised blinds has the detail.

What vertical blinds cost

We do not publish a price list, because a vertical is priced by the opening. Width and drop set most of it, then the fabric, the vane width, whether the track is standard or a coloured option, and whether the opening needs one track or several. A conservatory with five windows and a door is six prices, not one.

You get the figure in writing at the home visit. The visit is free, there is nothing to pay until you order, and we bring the fabric books to you so the choosing happens in the room the blinds are going in rather than under showroom lights.

Common questions

Can I wash the vanes?

Most of our fabrics can be wiped with a damp cloth. Some can be taken off the track and washed flat, but check with us first, because a few of the stiffened fabrics lose their finish in water.

Will they go across a bay?

Yes. A bay is usually three separate tracks, mitred at the corners so the vanes meet cleanly. We measure each face individually.

Can I replace a few damaged vanes rather than the whole blind?

Usually, if the fabric is still in range. Bring one in to the Thatcham showroom or send a photograph and we will check.

Do they help with heat?

Closed vanes cut direct sun considerably, which is why conservatories take them. For heat specifically, a pleated blind with a solar reflective backing does more.

What is the guarantee?

Twelve months from the date of order on the blind and on the fitting work, under clause 9.2 of our terms and conditions. A call-out charge applies to warranty visits more than five miles from the Thatcham showroom.
