Blinds & Shutters Across Berkshire

Smart Blinds & Shutters measures, makes and fits made-to-measure blinds, shutters, awnings and motorised window dressings across Berkshire. Everything we fit is installed by our own team, and we have worked from the same showroom at 26 High Street, Thatcham since 1995.

West Berkshire

Thatcham is where the business started and where the main showroom is, so it is the one place you can walk in, handle the fabrics and see a shutter working before you order. Newbury sits about three miles the other side of it, which makes it the shortest journey we make.

Around those two we cover Hungerford, mostly period and village properties where shutters have to be made to an awkward opening; Kingsclere and Chieveley, family housing either side of the M4; Cold Ash, Hermitage and Greenham, village homes close enough to Thatcham that a measure and a fit rarely need two trips; and Woolhampton and Midgham along the Kennet valley.

Reading and the Thames side

Reading and Caversham both have their own pages, and between them they cover most of what we are asked for on this side of the county.

Beyond those two we fit in Caversham Heights and Emmer Green, where the bay windows and the larger Edwardian openings suit shutters; Tilehurst in west Reading; Earley and Woodley, where most of the work is modern housing and a lot of it is motorised; Sonning and Pangbourne, riverside and period homes; and Henley-on-Thames, which is just over the Oxfordshire border rather than in Berkshire, and which we treat as part of the same round.

What we fit

The range is the same wherever you are in the county. Hardwood shutters made to measure, including full height, tier on tier and shaped openings. Motorised blinds, battery or mains, working with Lutron, Control4, Rako and Crestron, and fitted by a Somfy certified installer. Roller blinds with a choice of cassettes, vertical blinds, wood venetians, faux wood venetians, pleated, roman blinds, Allusion and Perfect Fit for UPVC frames with no drilling.

Outside and overhead we fit motorised awnings, external roller and roof blinds, skylight and lantern blinds, gable end blinds for apex windows, bi-fold door blinds and louvered roof pods. The full range is here, and our work shows what the finished jobs look like.

How a Berkshire job runs

One of us comes out, measures the openings and brings the fabric and finish samples with us, so the choosing happens in the room the blinds are going in rather than under showroom lights. The order goes to UK manufacturers, and the same team that measured comes back to fit. No subcontractors in between, which is the reason we can be held to the measurements.
